Isometric exercises are an age-old way of working out. Static yoga and martial arts poses are great examples.
And check out the physique of any gymnast. Super toned, super fit and lean and when you see them hold something like a front lever, super strong too.
I’ve been experimenting with adding some isometrics to my workouts, and they are very hard but very effective.
Basically, you adopt a pose where you are both stretching and applying resistance (with your bodyweight) to your muscles, tendons and ligaments, so you get the benefits of stretching and strength at the same time. These poses can be hard to hold initially, so take it easy when you begin.
