Cut down on your sitting time.

We sit commuting, we are behind our desks at work, we sit down to relax when home…

Sitting for a long time, our circulation gets constricted, muscles switch off, the whole body goes into shut down/idle mode. We develop incorrect posture and all sorts of aches and pains.

Then we try and fix these things whilst continuing aggravating them daily because they hurt and we feel safer if we just keep sitting down…

The easiest and quickest solution is to break sitting down time by intervals of activity. Stand up when taking on the phone, this will help circulation and you will concentrate more on the call. Also can use this time to stretch your hamstrings, your back, do some calf raises 🙂  Do not skip that walk to the printer, take the chance to post the letters, get off the bus a stop early, make your colleagues drinks or just go empty your bin! Same tactics at home: watching TV – instead of shuffling into a more comfortable position, just stand up and to some gentle stretches. In fact, watching TV in a tree pose does wonders for balance 🙂 Empty your bin, walk to the shop, stand up when texting!

Every time you feel like sitting down extend your staying up for a minute of two. Look up what sedentary lifestyle does to us, a few minutes standing up do make a difference! 🙂
